Amanda & Darek's MASS MoCA Wedding, June 2023

It was such an honor to photograph Amanda and Darek's wedding in North Adams, MA this past June. The couple got ready at the nearby Chase Hill Mansion and chose the incredibly fun venue MASS MoCA for their ceremony and small reception. This venue offers so many great spots for photos. The staff let us go anywhere we wanted for photos and I could have walked around photographing for hours.


The ceremony was in the gallery that holds Spencer Finch’s "Cosmic Latte", an installation which features over 150 specially fabricated LED fixtures suspended from the ceiling over an expanse of the 80-foot long gallery. This gallery looks so cool but presents a particular challenge for digital photography because the lights flicker at high speed. It's unnoticeable to our eyes but can cause "banding" or dark lines across the image. Luckily my Canon R3 camera can automatically detect flickering lights and sets the shutter speed to match the frequency. Technology to the rescue!


The reception took place in "The Prow" and featured fantastic food by Door Prize Catering and the long table was decorated with flowers from The Flower Scout.
